Do YOU remember 9-11? And how the Churhes were filled

Do YOU remember 9-11? And how the Churhes were filled...?
I was in Indianapolis Indiana the morning of 9-11. I drove my rented car back to Florida, for the Airlines were not FLYING! I flew each week for the Next Month and found No Children on those flights! Remember how MANY WENT TO CHURCH, that had Never Before Attended? MY QUESTION: What has happend to change = THOSE THAT WERE SEEKING GOD = = IN That Time Of National Terror and Concern FOR Themselves and for Our Nation? ? ? Thanks, RR

those people now realize that there is no god because september 11th wouldn't have happened in the first place
2 :
The only people that thought "god" was going to protect them are also stupid enough to forget their fears very quickly.
3 :
I could never forget 9/11. Tragedies like that do tend to send people seeking answers. But it soon wears off I guess when things get comfortable again. But it doesn't mean they didn't get any answers. Maybe they just seek the answers within, instead of in a group setting, like a church.
4 :
That is exactly how Americans are failing God.
5 :
I remember 9-11 but it gave me absolutely no desire to return to church. I do remember telling my wife though that it was a good thing I was pushing 40 or I might have had the urge to join the Army.
6 :
It does seem fickle but that is the general nature of people. Apart from those who are utterly devoted to the church, many only run to God in a time of crisis. When it seems like there is nothing else to believe in, why not take a punt on the big guy? I'm sure that many started in that time of despair and stuck with it.
7 :
That's a good point. I remember seeing people praying in the streets, restaurants and grocery stores. Where I work we had 7 people in those trade towers when they got hit. People at work were openly praying for those people. But now, we get in to trouble for having a Bible study during lunch hour.
8 :
Some times people have to be scared out of their witts to go and seek God and Jesus. Yah I remember that morning. I drove past Hancock International Air Port at about 6:30 AM that day, and aircraft wise. nothing was coming in or going out.
9 :
Yes, by gum, I do! And don't you think it would be just dandy if we had a national disaster of that dimension every week, so the churches could be full all the time? We need more death and disaster so God is not forgotten.
10 :
I'm not sure what your point is here, but one doesn't have to go to church to seek God. By the same token, you can't just assume that someone who attends a church service IS seeking God by being there. God is just a natural part of my every day life, as I live by His scripture that assures us that He will never leave us, nor forsake us. I don't have to attend a church service to know that. There are many people who have decided to concentrate on being spiritual, and having a personal relationship with Christ, rather than a religious one. It's what is in peoples hearts that is important, not how many people are filling up the pews.
11 :
I remember, I wasnt even a Christian yet but I went to church too. Yes, it was packed. Im sure some went out of fear by the initial shock, something to reassure them that God is still here and paying attention. A lot of people stopped going once they got reconsumed with their own lives, but then there were people like me who were moved to consider life and eternity as something more than just a philosophy. If you can take a minute (and anyone here who wants to) go visit my blog and read my 9/11 entry entitled "My Ground Zero" Id like you're feedback on it (click my name for a link to my 360 )
12 :
That's a good point. Don't you think it says a lot about why people choose religion in the first place? They want answers in turbulent times and they will put their faith in what ever satisfies their immediate needs. But some soon realize that religion does NOT have the answers (or at least not very good ones). So most satisfy themselves elsewhere. Some, will decide that THEY need to do things that will uplift the world for religion never can.
13 :
That is a good question,My opinion would be,When things are smooth,we tend to forget ,untill something happens, that we can"t control .We will call on God,so maybe that is one way He gets our attention. What would grab our attention now,I don"t know.
14 :
Because we were born with a natural desire to worship God. God put that in us. But, some people push that down and turn away from it. Some people worship false gods. When disasters happen, peoples first inclination is to cry out to God.
15 :
It's amazing how these things happen people don't want anything to do with God until they need their lives saved they seem to think that if they pray when they need him that he will just be there for them nomatter what! God does not work that way, would you? I doubt very much that if someone was only using you that you would want to help them when they need you and the rest of their time they never even thought of you at all or even to think to say hello to you when they saw you, down the road, People seem to orget that God knows their inermost feelings of their hearts, so he knows the motivations and when it's a put on just to save oneself, and God also knows that under those conditions that is just a selfish thing to save oneself if time and again people think they don't need God until something bad hapens to them or near them that they then think that God could help them with then thae may try to attach themselves to God do they really think that God is so desperate that he will help them under that type of relationship the throw at him, they themselves wouldn't accept that type of relationship from someone would they

How to plan a road trip

How to plan a road trip?
I'm planning a honeymoon road trip for next summer. We both love to travel but it will actually be a couple weeks AFTER our wedding. Our wedding will be in May. Here is our current list of destination, starting in northwest Arkansas, where we'll live. (The wedding will be in Alabama): Eureka Springs; St Louis; Chicago; Indianapolis; Cincinnati, Charleston, WV; DC; Baltimore; Hershey, PA; Philadelphia; NY; Providence, RI; Boston, MA We are planning to rent a more fuel efficient car. I am thinking the rent will be from $300-500 and gas (depending on unpredictable gas prices) will be around $300-400. We also were hoping it'd work to pick up the rent in AR and drop it in MA, at which point we'd fly back from Boston. The flight for 2 people is gonna run us around $400. The only thing we have left to figure out is food and housing (hotels, camping?, etc) If you are from any of these places or have traveled through please leave me any ideas! If you are an experienced traveler or know what it takes to roadtrip like this, I'd love to hear your thoughts!! THANKS!!!!

why did I have to put my shoes on to board the aircraft

why did I have to put my shoes on to board the aircraft?
I was in Indianapolis yesterday and had my shoes off to go thru security. Since I was just going to th 1st gate, I decided to carry my shoes and just walk onto the plane in my socks, I usually take my shoes iff anyways, and didn;t feel like lacing them up fir 2 minutes just to remove them. However when I got to the door of the plane the flight attendant told me that I had to have shoes to board. I showed her my shoes in the bag,and she made me go back down the walkway to building, put my shoes on and walk BACK to the plane. Why does stuff like this happen?? Is there a real reason or was just control issues,

Because if you injury your foot then they could be liable for this. Given the things that can be on the floor of the average plane why would you walk there barefoot?
2 :
I think it's both control and stupidity. If you passed the security check, then it shouldn't matter....
3 :
It's a safety issue. If there was an emergency and needed to leave the plane you would want/need to have shoes on to protect your feet. Flight attendant's number one job is to keep everyone safe.
4 :
once you go thought security you are *suppose* to put your shoes back you arent suppose to walk around the airport with out shoes
5 :
Logic and reason defies what these guys want you to do - when you travel you better learn to behave just like a sheep !!
6 :
They really shouldn't have allowed you to walk through the airport in just your socks. But, you definitely can't walk onto or around a plane without shoes. It's a safety hazard. Without shoes, your feet could get injured (by luggage or part of the plane). Also, in the case of an emergency, you would need to be able to exit as quickly as possible. It was for your safety and the safety of all the other passengers and crew. :)

What do I need to know about flying for the first time

What do I need to know about flying for the first time?
I'm 20 years old and flying for the first time (by myself, I mean) from Indianapolis to St. Petersburg, FL. I would love some tips about what I need to do and what I need to know as well as what I'm not allowed to bring, etc... My flight is booked with AirTran and as I understand it, they charge a fee for "checked" baggage... I'm wondering what that is. I only plan on having my large purse with me and one medium sized duffel bag. Is that what they mean when they say "checked" baggage. What about the compartments above the seats? Can I store my bags in there? And again, I definitely am curious about what items aren't allowed. What about personal toiletry items like razors, etc? Are those ok? Sorry if I seem clueless but I really don't want to encounter any trouble because I am such an inexperienced traveler so any tips or hints you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

that your airplane could crash
2 :
no razors, no lotions, no liquids, bring as little as possible with you as carry-on. and yes there are compartments above the seats for your bags. I flew by myself in the summer and it was my second time ever flying. It's actually less scary than you might think. good luck!
3 :
Here is the airport rules on Prohibited items: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm http://www.luggageonline.com/about_airlines.cfm
4 :
Bring Gum! Your ears are gonna be hurting once you get up high cause of the air pressure! Chewing gum makes it better :] Dont sit next to a fat guy either or he will fall asleep on your shoulder and drewl on you :[ Lol.
5 :
"Checked" baggage is any baggage that you don't carry onto the plane yourself. Usually it's anything that's too big to fit under the seat in front of you, or in the compartment above you. So your purse will be "carry-on" (which you WILL carry onto the plane yourself), but your duffle bag almost certainly will need to be checked. You can ask whether you need to check the duffle bag when you are checking into the flight. You would need to chekc in before going through security, if you have any bags you need to check, or if you don't already have a boarding pass. When you check in at the AirTran desk, you can take care of both of those. As far as what you can take through security, basically don't bring anything sharp, or anything but the smallest amounts of liquids or gels. Also make sure that all your liquid and gels are together in a quart-sized zip plastic bag. Most things that you aren't allowed to carry on, can go into your checked bags instead. This page has all the details: http://www.seatguru.com/articles/tsa_prohibited_items.php When you go through security, just watch what other people in front of you are doing. Usually they'll have plastic trays that you put your stuff on, before it goes through the x-ray. Things that need to go into these trays include: your shoes, any coat or jacket, any small carry-on items, and laptop computers (even if you normally put the laptop inside your bag, you need to take it out of the bag before putting it through the x-ray). You should also put any metal items on your person through the x-ray so that you don't "beep" when you walk through the metal detector (it's like a freestanding doorway with no door, beside the x-ray). So if you have keys, coins, etc. you can put those into a little bowl they'll have there, before you walk through the detector. Or you could put those things into a pocket in one of your bags before putting it through the x-ray. Once you are through security, you might want to buy a bottle of water (or bring an empty bottle and fill it from a water fountain after you're through security). It's easy to get dehydrated on planes and you may have to wait a while for them to bring drinks around, so having your own water is good. You may also want to bring earplugs (to block out the noise of the engines - it can bother some people), and gum to chew to help your ears pop when the plane is descending. Also, if you've ever gotten car-sick or motion sickness, take some dramamine or bonine or similar before you fly. Finally, if it'll be a long flight or you think you'll be tired, another good idea is to bring one of those neck pillows. Have a good flight!
6 :
By checked baggage they mean the luggage that you are checking at the ticket counter because you don't want the hassle of carrying it through the airport with you. It then goes into the back of the aircraft. Almost all airlines charge some sort of fee, I've found it ranges from $15-30 per bag, you might want to call and ask about AirTran, or check their website. Some airlines charge for a 2nd bag, so try to only have one if you check any. Since we are girls and tend to carry all our stuff when we travel, Such as makeup, gel, hairspray, etc, this is where it gets tricky. The pros and cons of checking vs not checking a bag. If you just have a duffel, you are probably wanting to carry it on with you and put it in the overhead bin, however, you can only have 1 quart size ziplock baggie full of your liquids and they have to be the small travel liquids, you can find them at walmart or target for fairly cheap. All liquids that you put into your baggie have to be 3.4 or so ounces. Razors are fine, you can't have any aerosol cans, such as hair spray or liquid starch at all. They will remove them from checked or carry on bags and throw them away. I work for an airline and see a lot of things get wasted because people dont ask, like you are doing. If you are going to be gone for awhile and have full size shampoo and conditioner, things that are liquid, you need to decide if they are worth checking your bag, or if the 20 you spend checking your bag could have bought new ones when you get to Florida. If you have any more questions feel free to email me at pacificnative@yahoo.com
7 :
Some of the answers so far are good. You CAN take a standard safety razor with you. the TSA website specifically says so. It can be in a bag that you carry onto the plane. The security people will not have any problem with that. Tens of thousands of people fly every day with a safety razor in their carry-on bag. I do. If your duffel bag is larger than about 22" x 14" x 9", then you will have to take it to your airline's ticket counter and give it to the ticket agent, so it gets put into the cargo hold of your plane. The "checked" baggage is the stuff that goes in the plane's cargo area. If your duffel bag is that size or smaller, then it will be OK to carry it with you, and put it into the overhead compartment once you find your seat. But, you can also check it if you don't want to haul it all over the airport with you - your choice. Hair dryers, curling irons, hair straighteners are all permitted in carry-on luggage, if you happen to want to take any of those. Cameras, music players, laptop computers, other electronics can all be carried on (in fact anything that is valuable should always be carried on board). Medications - prescription and over the counter - are all allowed on board. Any liquids, pastes, gels - like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, hand lotion, creams, liquid makeup items and so on - must each be in a container that is 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less, and all of those items must be in a single, 1 qt. zip lock, clear plastic bag. If you want to take larger quantities of any liquid, then you must put those into a bag that you will check at the ticket counter. Aerosols are permitted in small quantities, but huge cans of hairspray, for example, would be confiscated from a carry-on bag, and would probably be removed even from checked luggage by an inspector. The TSA web site really has all of the information you need about what can and can't be brought, how to pack for efficient screening, and other travel tips. I highly recommend it. To Sarajevo : Lufthansa has direct flights from Munich, Austrian from Vienna, British Airways from London and Malev from Budapest. If you search these four airlines' shedule, you can find the best fare with Malev. It is always cheaper to fly all the way with the same company, not to combine. Malev's share partners fly both to Chicago and Detroit. If you book early in advance you will have better options and cheaper seats. British Airways has nice offers right now for the next year bookings. Lufthansa has flights from all three mentioned cities, but is quite expensive. Ask them about spec. offers and early bookings. The same applies for Austrian and British Airways. There is also possibility to fly from USA using charter flights to Europe, but always search for towns having direct flights to Sarajevo: Madrid, Koeln, Munich, Budapest, Vienna, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Beograd, Ancona and/or London. Good luck, Dado bosanski!

If this happens to returning U.S. Military soldiers what do we have to look forward to as gun owners

If this happens to returning U.S. Military soldiers what do we have to look forward to as gun owners?
If this happens to our soldiers what is going to happen to hunters that fly to places like Alaska to hunt As the Chalk Leader for my flight home from Afghanistan, I witnessed the following: When we were on our way back from Afghanistan, we flew out of Baghram Air Field. We went through customs at BAF, full body scanners (no groping), had all of our bags searched, the whole nine yards. Our first stop was Shannon, Ireland to refuel. After that, we had to stop at Indianapolis, Indiana to drop off about 100 folks from the Indiana National Guard. That's where the stupid started. First, everyone was forced to get off the plane-even though the plane wasn't refueling again. All 330 people got off that plane, rather than let the 100 people from the ING get off. We were filed from the plane to a holding area. No vending machines, no means of escape. Only a male/female latrine. It's probably important to mention that we were ALL carrying weapons. Everyone was carrying an M4 Carbine (rifle) and some, like me, were also carrying an M9 pistol. Oh, and our gunners had M-240B machine guns. Of course, the weapons weren't loaded. And we had been cleared of all ammo well before we even got to customs at Baghram, then AGAIN at customs. The TSA personnel at the airport seriously considered making us unload all of the baggage from the SECURE cargo hold to have it reinspected. Keep in mind, this cargo had been unpacked, inspected piece by piece by U.S. Customs officials, resealed and had bomb-sniffing dogs give it a one-hour run through. After two hours of sitting in this holding area, the TSA decided not to reinspect our Cargo-just to inspect us again: Soldiers on the way home from war, who had already been inspected, reinspected and kept in a SECURE holding area for 2 hours. Ok, whatever. So we lined up to go through security AGAIN. This is probably another good time to remind you all that all of us were carrying actual assault rifles, and some of us were also carrying pistols. So we're in line, going through one at a time. One of our Soldiers had his Gerber multi-tool. TSA confiscated it. Kind of ridiculous, but it gets better. A few minutes later, a guy empties his pockets and has a pair of nail clippers. Nail clippers. TSA informs the Soldier that they're going to confiscate his nail clippers. The conversation went something like this: TSA Guy: You can't take those on the plane. Soldier: What? I've had them since we left country. TSA Guy: You're not suppose to have them. Soldier: Why? TSA Guy: They can be used as a weapon. Soldier: [touches butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon. And I'm allowed to take it on. TSA Guy: Yeah but you can't use it to take over the plane. You don't have bullets. Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers? TSA Guy: [awkward silence] Me: Dude, just give him your damn nail clippers so we can get the f**k out of here. I'll buy you a new set. Soldier: [hands nail clippers to TSA guy, makes it through security] To top it off, the tsa demanded we all be swabbed for "explosive residue" detection. Everyone failed, [go figure, we just came home from a war zone], because we tested positive for "Gun Powder Residue". Who the F**K is hiring these people? This might be a good time to remind everyone that approximately 233 people re-boarded that plane with assault rifles, pistols, and machine guns-but nothing that could have been used as a weapon. Can someone please tell me What the F**K happened to OUR country while we were gone? Sgt. Mad Dog Tra

May I be the first to congratulate you on your extraordinary perspicacity. No one else around here seems to have noticed; and the news people keep acting like everything's just hunky-dory. (Heck, if I get any safer I think I'll just puke!)

To think that our national security depends, in part, on these Thousands Standing Around. This is why there should be more Air Foirce bases around the country, so military personnel don't have to deal with these civilian misfits.
9 :
You should have hit him with the butt of your M-4.
10 :
It didn't begin while you were gone. It began with the institution of the Civil Service system, over a century ago. Congress decided regulations could take the place of good sense, and the rules and regulations have expanded on an absurd scale ever since. This doesn't really have anything to do with nail clippers and weaponry so much as it does with rules being followed as the new God in the Church of Bureaucracy. Ever tried to leave blank a spot on a government form that isn't applicable to the situation? Same deal.
11 :
yeah its like the old days where they wouldn´t let you on a plane with a pair of tiny scissors but you could take a lighter plus spraycan. Or like they give immigrants this paper, on the plane, asking "Do you plan terroristic acts in the United States?". Really sad that you get treated like that, "welcome home, thanks so much for fighting for our country, we think your a terrorist"... thats just a great welcome-home.
12 :
You had to go through this not because of Obama or the liberals. This has to do with the perception of security the american people crave. No this nonsense does not make us safer but if it wasn't around people would complain and say that the president doesn't protect the country. Plus all of this bs started under Bush not Obama.
13 :
I read this same article online, you probably should give credit to the actual writer of the article so people don;t think you're the guy who wrote this.
14 :
something really bad, since 9/11, security has gotten wackier and wackier, to the point of near communism and retardism I suspect something is going to happen real soon if no one does something to stop it, I fear something is going to happen to the US and it's not going to be pretty.
15 :
I heard a similar story about nail clippers from another returning vet. Although I am probably the only conservative for the new TSA rules (I agree with the pat downs, and the full body scanners, because eventually al qaeda will use white muslims who can blend in with the rest of us, so profiling wont work). What you described is asinine, how many returning veterans are going to try to take over a plane (with nail clippers)? A little common sense will go a long way.

What do you think of my mock draft? (explanations for first 5)

What do you think of my mock draft? (explanations for first 5)?
1.)Detroit Lions -Andre Smith, OT - I was looking at the Lions team stats and saw that: their team output passing the ball was worse than Ben Roethlisberger's individual season, they averaged 3.8 yards a carry and didn’t have a 1000 yard rusher, and the top 4 rushers in the NFL had more yards rushing than they did as a team. Smith is the premier road-grading OT in this class, and he's not too shabby in pass protection too. If he starts letting up too many sacks, then he could become the next Shawn Andrews as a guard (aka a good thing). Games are won in the trenches and having Smith on the line can only help. 2.)St. Louis Rams - Eugene Monroe, OT - I really feel that the Rams need a pass-blocking offensive tackle, now that Orlando Pace is pretty much done. Eugene Monroe is that guy. His specialty is pass blocking and it allows the Rams to have a good crop of young bookend tackles (Barron and Monroe) who can block for Bulger (who was given a huge contract a couple years ago, I think the contact is what's making him ineffective) 3.)Kansas City Chiefs - Aaron Curry, OLB/ILB - Curry is THE stud linebacker in this class. Although he played OLB in college, I think the Chiefs (depending on who the coach ends up being) will end up putting him in the middle so that Derrick Johnson doesn’t have to play out of position anymore. The only knock on him is his ability to drop into coverage, but those concerns should ease off in time as he works to improve himself. 4.)Seattle Seahawks - Michael Crabtree, WR - I used to have Malcolm Jenkins here, but I read an article that would go against the 'Hawks going against taking Jenkins. They have a top-flight corner already (Trufant) and have spent money on a first rounder (Jennings) while also having a potential steal of the draft (Josh Wilson) on their roster. They do not have anyone like that at WR, where their top guys is the oft-injured Deion Branch, and Bobby Engram might be gone too. 5.)Cleveland Browns - Malcolm Jenkins, CB - No-brainer. If he was going to be available at this pick they'd take him. Best player at his position and fills a very important need. The other need is a 3-4 OLB, but there are plenty of those to be had in the second round. 6.)Cincinnati Bengals - Jason Smith, OT - 7.)Oakland Raiders - Jeremy Maclin, WR - 8.)Jacksonville Jaguars - Duke Robinson, OG - 9.)Green Bay Packers - B.J Raji, DT 10.)San Francisco 49ers - Matthew Stafford, QB 11.)Buffalo Bills - Brian Orakpo, DE 12.)Denver Broncos - Rey Mauluaga, ILB 13.)Washington Redskins - Michael Oher, OT 14.)New Orleans Saints - Vontae Davis, CB 15.)Houston Texans -Brian Cushing, OLB 16.)San Diego Chargers - Beanie Wells, RB 17.)NY Jets - Mark Sanchez, QB 18.)Chicago Bears - Phil Loadholt, RT 19.)Tampa Bay Buccaneers - LeSean McCoy, RB 20.)Detroit (From DAL) -Peria Jerry, DT 21.)Philadelphia Eagles - Brandon Pettigrew, TE 22.)Minnesota Vikings - Eben Britton, OT 23.)NE Patriots - DJ Moore, CB 24.)Miami Dolphins - Everette Brown, OLB 25.)Atlanta Falcons -William Moore, FS/SS 26.)Baltimore Ravens - James Lauranaitis ILB 27.)Indianapolis Colts - Sen'Derrick Marks, DT 28.)Philadelphia Eagles (From CAR) - Russell Okung, OT 29.)Tennessee Titans - Alex Mack, C 30.)New York Giants - Clay Matthews, OLB 31.)AZ Cardinals -Knowshon Moreno, HB 32.)Pittsburgh Steelers - Tyson Jackson, DE oh sorry, russell okung isnt coming out so obviously the eagles cant take him. so they'll take william beatty JF-13, you're just dumb. this is the correct draft order, save for the last two picks. i put the steelers at 32 cuz they have the better record. look it up

I gotta disagree with the Chiefs pick , I agree with what Kiper said about Thigpen only being a solid back up at best really don't think they'll take Sanchez that high but there is a possibility they could take a QB . Also I think Curry will fit right into Mangini's scheme he'll implement in Cleveland . However they may decide to take Mauluaga . I really hope the Steelers take Alex Mack to give us a anchor to build on . Really we can all speculate all we want to , but until all the senior bowls , combines , and everything else is over we won't really know because as we've seen already Orakpo who was once predicted Top 5 has fallen quite a bit and could still fall farther.
2 :
Well, your Draft Order isn't right, because it goes by record. Therefore the Titans have the 32nd pick, the Giants have the 31st. So your picks near the bottom are out of order. But your top 5 seems pretty valid, and so do most of your mock picks. Except the Bucs are pretty much set on RBs with Dunn, and if he becomes too old there's always Cadillac. The Titans aren't in dyer need of a C either. They need a star WR, and will take the best available which if your picks are right, then they should take Percy Harvin. BTW Matt Stafford isn't going to the draft. He decided to change his mind.
3 :
You put together a good one... as always there are some disagreements: - The Lions are too stupid to draft an O-Lineman. They will most likely take Stafford or Sanchez and watch in clueless awe as they get sacked 10+ times a game. - I'm a little skeptical on the Chiefs taking Curry. They have so many areas to address I think they will wait to draft a LB until a later round or address the position in free agency. - I'm not sold on the fact that the 49ers are going to take a QB. It seems to be a popular pick in most mock drafts that I've looked at and quite frankly, I'm a little surprised. No, they don't have a stud QB, but they do have one that will win them games in Shaun Hill, and with Singletary admittedly trying to establish a smash-mouth running game, I will be shocked if they don't address needs pertaining more to the ground game or defense with that 10th overall pick. ...all that aside, your guess is as good as any ones at this point, and I think you put together a pretty sensible mock draft. Good job!
4 :
Too many overrated USC linebackers on your list. Rey Maulaluga got pancaked by a TE at Senior Bowl practice yesterday!

Very good. Looks similar to Mel Kiper's draft.

How to make my laptop last a long airplane ride

How to make my laptop last a long airplane ride?
I have a Macbook Pro 15" with OSX 10.6.7 (if that matters haha) Anyway, my mom, dad, brother, uncle, cousin (and his wife) are going out to Yosemite park this summer. We're meeting up with my other uncle, aunt and other cousin there. We are flying out of Indianapolis International Airport and flying into San Fransisco International. I know it's a few hours but approximately how long is that flight and how can I make my laptop last that long? I have like 3 movies on my laptop, but I didn't know if it will last through 3 movies. I was going to put it on the least brightness and try to make the energy saving settings so it lasts longer, but are there any tips you use on long trips? I'm assuming it's about 6 hours, that's how long it took for us to fly from Chicago to there once.

i have these same problems. Alright heres what you do. 1. dim the brightness (it helps alot) 2. don't use the speakers use headphones and don't have it up really loud. 3. watch movies (that is probably the least battery consumer you could use on a laptop.) 4.close unnecessary things or programs such as skype g talk java and things like that) 5.log off about after every movie and give it about 10 minutes to rest (NOTE: do not shut down log off!!) 6. do not have a blanket or something under the laptop just have your logs nothing do block the fan opening. 7. if you can log in as a guest so that you wont have all of your files and stuff burning up the battery. trust me it helps.

How is this story so far

How is this story so far?
Any normal person would have figured out that Nicole's intentions on being friends with Savannah were false. Only a fool who refused to believe that their "precious angel" was capable of demonic destruction would turn the blind eye. Savannah thought Carter and Andy would have taken the hint that Nicole and her friends weren't what they seemed when she forwarded the nasty messages sent by Erica and Jennifer to them. Carter always liked to tell Savannah that she had no proof that Nicole was trying to sabotage her. Or even when Savannah had told Carter that the reason why Nicole's friends had been adding her on Facebook was to either check her out or do some unnecessary spying. Erica's persistent bullying on her statuses were proof enough. But of course, knowing Erica, she probably told him a fib story on why she had done it. But did they even respond to that? No. All they did was just simply ignore it. That put Savannah in a foul mood. Even when she entered the lobby of the Indianapolis International Airport, she still felt like smashing her fist through a wall. To add insult to injury, neither Carter or Andy were speaking to her. Why are they mad? Savannah thought angrily. Can't they seem I'm being bullied by the Mean Girls of Paramount? Of course those jerks didn't care. They were boys. They wouldn't have been concerned with Girl-on-Girl bullying if Savannah had been murdered by them. Boys liked that kind of stuff. "Probably hoping for a sexy catfight." Savannah muttered under her breath as she marched her white flip-flops on the immaculate floor. "What was that, honey?" Lauren Drake, Holly's mother, asked her. "I said I was hoping to see a sexy cat." Savannah lied automatically. Lauren cracked a smile. "No wonder my daughter talks about you all the time. You really are a pistol." Savannah returned the smile. At least that boosted her esteem. Lauren's mother seemed to have liked Savannah. She had often treated her like another daughter of hers. The woman had an uncanny resemblance to her own daughter and Savannah's best friend, Holly. They even had the same styled hair. What stuck out the most about the Drake family were their beautiful blue eyes. The only family member who didn't obtain that trait was Holly's older sister, Kayla. Who also had a flow of thick, auburn hair. Holly often liked to tell everyone she knew that Kayla was sat on their doorstep by a trailer-trash family. But Savannah knew deep down inside that Holly loved her sister. Even if it that affection was deep down inside of Holly's abyssal heart. All six of her friends, not counting Carter, Andy, and God forbid; Nicole, met up with her. Nicole, who couldn't seem to have taken her hands out of her hair, smiled condescendingly at her. A smile Savannah knew all too well. It meant that she had her right where she wanted her to be. Savannah thought the Netherlands could hear her gulp. This was going to be a long Spring Break. Meanwhile, Carter and Nicole couldn't take their hands off of each other while everyone waited for their flight to arrive. Savannah had the misfortune of watching them suck-faces. She looked over at Lauren who obliviously made a few calls on her Blackberry. Savannah should have known that Lauren wouldn't have been too offended by the public display of affection considering how liberal she was about her daughter and her friends drinking. She was one of those flighty, misguided suburban mothers who had no clue what her children were doing. And that put Savannah in an uncomfortable position. Lauren's motto was: "How are they going to learn if they don't get any practice first." By that, she meant that the sooner a child drinks, the less accidents would occur on their twenty-first birthday. Lauren never did make quite sense. Who would have thought that a forty-year-old woman would care what a bunch of ninth graders thought of her?

1. Boston at NY Jets. Massachusetts is next door to New York. 2. Jacksonville at San Diego. If they drove on I-10, they'd cross through Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, but you could also fit in Georgia if you flew. 3. Tricky. There's no road over the canyon. It's in Arizona, but the team went East. May be the New Orleans Saints, if this is a reference to "When the saints go marching in" song...

Nursing is a really awesome vocation, I have met many wonderful nurses in my lifetime, both men and women. My daughter found some really awesome instruction about it on the resource in the box below, and now she is in her first semester of training.

An awesome Idea! Informational interview might be the catch phrase to use. Speak to your University Job placement resources and your mentor/counselor. You've done some research finding one hospital. Broaden that search, look for a job shadow experience in the ER or triage of the hospital and find out who rides the copter and ask them for advice. Ask anyone you meet if they know of someone in or close to this profession. Showing a profound interest and perseverance will get you that ride along. They have to have training missions! Good Luck!!

This is one of the organizations in California called Calstar that does flight nursing. The email address to get a hold of them at would be education@calstar.org

Why are Blueberry Preserves dangerous

Why are Blueberry Preserves dangerous?
Recently I went to a family reunion in Indiana and won a door prize. It was a small jar of Blueberry Preserves, 11.5 oz. to be exact. When I flew back home from Indianapolis to Denver I had it packed in my carry on luggage which was just a small backpack, I didn't have any checked luggage. When I went through the TSA security check they confiscated the Preserves and said that I couldn't take it on the plane because it was more than 3 oz. My question is; What exactly is it about Blueberry Preserves that makes it a dangerous terrorist substance? Did they really think that I was going to "JAM" up the flight controls with it or something like that? Please don't tell me that it was because it was more than three ounces either, that's just plain B.S. and totally ridiculous. I mean C'mon really, it was food stuff. Besides, my dad that lives in Texas was allowed to takes his on the plane, and it was the same size jar, only a different flavor. Pay attention Brandon, and everyone else. I said I didn't want to hear anything about that 3 ounces crap. So explain to me why my father was able to take his 11.5 ounce jar of preserves on the plane to Texas. James O Just because YOU'RE paranoid, doesn't mean I'm out to get you. So explain to me what exactly is in preserves that could cause an explosion? Nothing. Blueberry preserves are highly explosive, and a three-ounce jar would blow a hole about six feet across in the side of an airliner. Or, at least, that's what Dick Cheney thinks. Let's hope we don't get any more of these whack jobs for a few decades. I see the Thumbs Down Monkeys are out in force today. Whenever I get lots of Thumbs Down Monkey Hits, that's when I know for sure I'm right! Thanks, Guys!
3 :
Heres the thing, 3oz is the min. volume needed to cause a serious chemical explosion. 3oz of plastic will actually be more than enough to blow a hole in the side of a pressurized jet. And there are quite a few things that you can mix with preserves to make a nasty bomb. Dont get mad at it. You know it was food, but they dont. I used to work for TSA at the Dayton Airport and snagged one of those SOB's from over seas. He seemed to be a great guy, as im sure you are. But when the investigation was conducted we found that he was meeting someone in Dallas flying from Chicago. He had all kinds of "innocent" stuff in his bag. But when the contents of his bag was put with the contents of the other dudes bag in IL, they had a bomb. Hope this helps you out a bit.
4 :
There is absolutely nothing dangerous about blueberry preserves, nor is there anything dangerous about toothpaste or hair shampoo. Rules are rules, even if they don't make sense to you. If your father did carry on more than a 3 oz. jar of preserves, then someone wasn't doing their job at the airport. The traveling public didn't make up the rules, but the rules got made up thanks to the Muslim terrorists and an overzealous government. And I'm sure that nearly anyone could scoop out the middle of a jar of preserves and hide a nice little chunk of plastic explosive in it. The bigger the jar, the bigger the chunk. That's why they made up the rule. It sucks for the preserve eaters, but helps preserve the safety of everyone that flys.

Good luck, Dado bosanski! edit: They will charge youth/student fare for your ticket, which is about 30% cheaper than adult fare. If you book fixed dates the tickets will be cheaper also. And if you find at least another 2 people traveling on the same dates, you can have another discount as a group.

Colons periods commas is this right?
Are the periods colons and commas in the righ tplaces if not please explain where they should go...best answer gets 10 points!!! The memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1982—not 1,983. We played in the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana. I cited an article in the May 8, 1999, Wall Street Journal. Carl sent Diana a dozen bright, red, long-stem roses. He buys most of his clothes in a store for big, tall men. Our enrollment for 1999, 1,884; for 2000, 2040. Where is the request for books and supplies for room 1,004? The memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1982—not 1,983. - There is no comma in the 1983, because thats a year not a number... We played in the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana. - This one is right... I cited an article in the May 8, 1999, Wall Street Journal. - No comma after 1999... Carl sent Diana a dozen bright, red, long-stem roses. - I think this one is right, otherwise the comma after red is wrong... He buys most of his clothes in a store for big, tall men. - Right... Our enrollment for 1999, 1,884; for 2000, 2040. - Not sure... Where is the request for books and supplies for room 1,004? - Is it room 1004? Policy #HP294,873 took effect on September 20, 1999. - Right... Della and Eldon Simms paid $129,000 for their new condo. - Right... Dry cleaning list: 1 suit, 2 jackets, 3 pants, 2 sweaters. - Right except there should be a 'and' before the 2 sweaters... Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. - right... I quote Jean Racine; “Innocence has nothing to dread.” - Right... Glynda asked me to meet her 2:15 p.m. flight, at JFK Airport. - I dont think you need the comma after flight... Ten o’clock I the morning is the same as 10:00a.m. - Right...
5 :
Carl sent Diana a dozen bright red, long-stem roses. ("Bright" describes red) Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I quote Jean Racine: “Innocence has nothing to dread.” (A colon announces a quote, not a semicolon) Glynda asked me to meet her 2:15 p.m. flight at JFK Airport. (That comma was unnecessary.) Edited to add: Oops, I missed #1. 1983 is a year--no comma.
6 :
No comma in 1983. Hoosier Dome looks OK. Wall Street Journal sentence is fine. You could take all the commas out of the rose sentence and it would be OK. BTW, tell your teacher they are "long-stemmed" roses and they need a hyphen, just as I wrote it. Usually it's big OR tall men. If they're talking about large, tall men, then this is OK. Put a colon after 1999 and again after 2000. But it's a crappy way to do it. No comma for room 1004. HP sentence is OK. Condo sentence OK. Dry cleaning OK, unless you want semicolons between the items. I don't think that's necessary. It's not a sentence; it's just a list. Golden Rule OK. I thought maybe a comma after Racine, but I think a colon would be better. No comma after flight. Put a space between 10:00 and a.m. This is not a very good or useful assignment, in my opinion.
7 :
When you are writing a year there should be no comma e.g. 1,983 should be 1989 if it refers to a year. when dealing with numbers into the thousands, a comm should be used, therefore one thousand eight hundred and eighty four should be written as 1,884. There doesn't really need to be a comma between flight and JFK airport as a comma merely indicates a slight pause and when speaking that sentance aloud , you prbably wouldn't pause there. And for the last one, it should probably be ten o'clock IN the morning etc. Otherwise fine.

(you can use the comma for thousands or not, but don't mix it) Where is the request for books and supplies for room 1004? (room numbers generally don't have the commas) Policy #HP294873 took effect on September 20, 1999. Della and Eldon Simms paid $129,000 for their new condo. How does one go about getting compensation from an airline

How does one go about getting compensation from an airline?
I was traveling from Indianapolis to Gainsville, Florida. One stop over in Atlanta. I am disabled and they provided a wheeel chair. (I can walk some just not great distances) First in Indy they delayed us an hour and 20 minutes because supposeingly a wheel came off a plane in Atlanta) It made me late for my next flight by the time we got off the plane. They had another plane for me at 4:14. My father confirmed it from his end but the girl said I missed that one yet they were still boarding (by the way I was not on standy by) and dropped me off at one that left at 9:45 in the evening,no wheel chair or way to get around. I opened my cell when she dropped me off and it read 4:10. I could not get around unless I asked another stranger to watch my luggage which is wrong. The two gate girls refused to. I was lucky to find two for bathroom and another for a nearby food place, I also hurt so bad from sitting in one spot and walking my back hurt so bad I was crying. I also developed a bad blister on my foot from trying to get around those short distances. and had to go to Doctor during my stay. I also spent high price food money in Atlanta due to not counting on being there so late. I also had the same problems with delays on the way back but the hours were a little better but still late. Both ways my families had a hard time trying to get me. I feel they should refund my money, food and doctor bills and time and gas for my families. Do I get a lawyer or do I call the airline. I am new to this,... travelma I did request assitance a week before my flight and they knew my condition. also to Frequent flyer...it really doesnt matter that much to me what I get...I want something for the hardship I went through,...I really hurt,... I don't plan to sue, been that route when my daughter died in a car accident and the bar had no insurance and the bartender had no liscense... what a laugh our legal systems.!!! Neil could not get on,, the girl rolled me away right away to the next one and said I missed it. I did not if they were still boarding.

Definitely put everything in writing and go to the airline's website and see where you can contact them and express your dissatisfaction with the service. No guarantee you will get your money back as the airline may only say their job is to get you to your destination which they did, but just not in the way you wanted them to.
2 :
well that was a bad thing happened to you, it was sure a airline fault, first you should contact the airline and tell them the whole situation , if they do not agree to pay your bills, then you should get a lawyer. All the Best..
3 :
but when you made your reservation did you tell the reservation you needed a wheelchair if you didn't tell them that when making a reservation (they will place a notice in your reservation) they don't have anyway of knowing did you expect to have ESP and know that you needed wheelchair? when you checked at the Indianapolis airport did you tell the agent you needed a wheelchair? when you got to the gate did you tell them? airlines donut hav esp a while ago I helped my g/f (who need wheelchair when we first arrived at Lax we notified the airline agent was already waiting for us with a wheelchair, then we went go to our destination in the jetway an wheelchair was waiting this is because we notified the airlines in advance' but since you never told the airline you needed a wheelchair IN ADAVNE thats why it took so long,,,
4 :
You say they were still boarding. Then why did you not get on? Normal airline practice is to close the door ten minutes before stated departure time. If they didn't do that, it wuldn't be posssible to depart on time. Delays are a fact of life in travel. There are two different ways to approach this. One is legal, and you'll get nowhere that way. The other is as a customer relations matter, and that is where you may get some satisfaction. I can pretty much guarantee that you will not get the cost of your trip refunded (since they did, after all, get you there.) Nor are they likely to pay out cash for your food at ATL or your doctor bills. But a clear, no nonsense complaint will likely yield a voucher for $50 or $100 off a future trip. Time and gas for your families? Best not to mention it if you want to be taken seriously.
5 :
Write a letter or email to Delta. They are required to respond by law to all complaints. You probably won't get a refund for the food and doctor, but most likely will receive a refund for the flight. Good luck!

Just wondering why the cost of plane tickets have gone up so much

Just wondering why the cost of plane tickets have gone up so much?
Last year, in August/09, my husband and I flew from St. John's, NL to Indianapolis, IND which is my husband's hometown. The total cost for both of us was $1100, taxes in. The tickets were booked in July, only a month before the flight. This year however, we are planning to go back in June and we have been pricing plane tickets on every site imaginable and they are all $2000 for both of us. The cheapest we have found is $1800, the most expensive being $6000!! Why are the tickets so much more this year, and what would you recommend for us to do? Would it be wise to book the tickets months in advance or just a little before we go? We're trying to keep it at $1200 as we are both students. Thanks.

Consolidation of airlines, rising fuel costs, fewer flights because of fewer flyers(there's a desert in Arizona with 100's of airlines being stored). I can't say what you should do. You could look at the flights and see how many seats are remaining. If there are a lot left, the flight could be cancelled. If there are only a few left, they probably won't go down. Anything in between is a crap shoot. If I were you I'd get an alert from the airline or Kayak.com letting you know if they go down over the next few weeks. If they don't I think I'd book.

Planning first roadtrip. Help

Planning first roadtrip. Help!?
THANKS!!!!

I'm a professional roadtripper and I can give you some tips on how to balance your budget while being on the road.I'm driving across the country this summer and I already planned my roadtrip and I know how much it will cost me altogether.first, rent a mid-size car which is more economic on gas, and when you stop at a filling station for gas, take each receipt so you can keep track of your expenses.do the same if you stay at a hotel(Super 8 motel recommended) about food and places to eat, find a grocery store along your way and stop there to buy some.you save a lot by doing this,I figure, and don't forget to get the receipts so you have an idea of how much the roadtrip cost you.it won't believe this but my last roadtrip across the country cost me about $600 altogether one way (excluding the rental car costs).of course gas was cheap by then and the economy wasn't that bad at all.
2 :
A few tips. In Hershey, stay in the Hershey Hotel, not cheap, but it's your honeymoon and you might as well. Don't underestimate northeastern traffic, it's heavy. Always. Even if you weren't planning on spending an overnight in each of the northeastern cities, with the possible exception of Providence, it would be worthwhile to do so. In Philly, eat at the City Tavern, do the historical tour of the area, don't skip seeing Independence Hall and Christ Church. Amish country sits between Hershey and Philly, may be worth driving through if you have time to take the scenic route. Take a few minutes to just stand in the middle of Times Square and admire the mayhem. Get tickets for the Gateway Arch ahead of time, likewise if you're seeing a play on Broadway. Have fun!
3 :
I disagree with almost everything about the plan that you just presented starting with the high mpg car On a trip of 4000 highway miles there is only a marginal cost difference between the cost of gas for a full sized car and economy car. The full sized car offers you much greater , performance, comfort and safety than the economy car does The gas math Full sized 4000 mi @ 27 mpg=148.148 gal @$ 3,00/gal =$ 444.444 Economy 4000mi @ 34mpg =117.647 gal @$3.00/gal = $ 352.941 Difference over 4000miles ? $ 91.50 or $22.87 per 1000 mi >>> More savings One way car rentals and one way flights are THE expensive way to do either one of those things I would seriously suggest doing a loop drive b/c it would probably save you a couple of hundred bucks in the long run. Leave this Q open for a day or two and I'll answer some of your Q's I was born & raised in NYC, Lived in Chicago , ski-bummed in VT , know New England and the Northeaster part of America fairly well

info & help needed for an unacompanied minor traveling across the country

info & help needed for an unacompanied minor traveling across the country!?
I'm 15 and am traveling from Indianapolis to Chicago and the final destination is Beijing, China by American Airlines. I am also fluent in English so I can communicate with the AA faculty. My sister is 22 and she is picking me up at the Beijing airport and she is fluent in chinese. My parents are not coming with me but they will put me on the unaccompanied minor plan. Also, AA changed my flight time so now i have a layover for like about 10-11 hours at the chicago O'hare airport . Any suggests on what to do there? When I get to Beijing does the faculty from AA still escort me or am I on my own? What DOes my sister need to do when she is picking me up from Beijing airport? I know this is a lot to ask but i am freaking out here!!

They should escort you to your sister, if they don't then you should ask them to. Tell them you need their assistance.
2 :
1. You can read about American Airlines unaccompanied minor service here: http://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInformation/specialAssistance/childrenTraveling.jsp This is the specific paragraph about your sister meeting you in Beijing: Procedures - Picking Children Up From The Airport "The adult designated to pick up the unaccompanied minor at the destination airport should plan to arrive at the arrival gate 20 minutes before the flight's scheduled arrival time. Because airport concourses are secured to ticketed passengers only, the designated person should allow additional time to obtain the required boarding pass from the airport ticket counter to clear and proceed through the security checkpoint. After verifying identification and forms at the gate, the American Airlines employee will release your child to the designated individual." O'Hare is quite a large airport with lots of shopping and restaurants. I'm not sure if you will be limited in some fashion due to your unaccompanied minor status. You may want to call American Airlines directly to ask them. You can reach their reservations and customer service at (800) 433-7300.
3 :
Your parents need to be doing the preparations for your trip. A valid passport and Chinese visa are needed. Travel alone is permitted for a minor, but an adult must meet you at Customs when you arrive in China. The Chinese authorities will not allow a 15-year-old to enter the country alone.

Why can't I stop crying? I feel so silly. Make me feel better

Why can't I stop crying? I feel so silly. Make me feel better?
I live with my boyfriend. We've lived together almost a year and we are really really close. We do everything together and I was so excited to have our first Thanksgiving living together. He got a call a couple days ago that his grandpa died unexpectedly and his parents wanted to fly him to Indianapolis (his hometown) for the funeral. They scheduled it for Friday and Saturday this week so he had to leave today. I was kind of upset about them making his flight for the morning of Thanksgiving because I've been his girlfriend for a long time and I felt kind of overlooked by his parents and I felt like they could have easily made it for tonight. We hurried up and got everything ready for Thanksgiving so we could do it the day before and we had an awesome Thanksgiving yesterday. But I'm all alone in Florida today thru Sunday morning. I feel fine with it but after he left at 6am this morning I started crying. I have no one down here. My family lives in Missouri and so do my friends. I'm 19 and for the first time I'm completely alone. We rent a room in a house with a bunch of people and they all kinda creep me out (a few are oldish men) so I'm just hanging out in the bedroom playing video games while my boyfriend texts and calls me every once in awhile. He's been sending me adorable texts all day but every time he texts or calls I cry. I shouldn't feel so alone right? I have an anxiety disorder so maybe that's it. I really don't like being 1,000 miles away from everyone I know. Make me feel better? He left only 10 hours ago and if I'm feeling like this I don't know how I'm going to make it until Sunday morning.

Hang in there. The key to pushing through adversity is managing how you overcome it. It may seem like an eternity but try to get through it one day at a time. If you try and set a routine or agenda to keep you active the less you'll focus on he's away and how much you miss him. It would completely unrealistic to say this would make you forget his absence, but I can assure you by keeping yourself busy it will take your mind off things. I have to say for being 19 you are a very adventurous for living that far away from friends and family by your own free will. The important thing is that despite the distance and family emergency he's tending to he's making an active effort to communicate with you. Remind yourself of this and how much he cares about you. Since I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy think of this experience as a building block to strengthening your guys relationship. Since this probably won't be the first or last time this happens it's good to think how you'll handle and prepare for them when they occur. I'm not sure how much it would make you feel better, but just know that having someone out there no matter the distance, it's temporary and a lot of people don't have what you do. It will only be for a couple days, try and keep yourself busy and think how happy the two of you will be when he returns.

Has anyone had their young baby or child go through surgery and if so how did you cope with your worries

Has anyone had their young baby or child go through surgery and if so how did you cope with your worries?
I had my first baby, a daughter, on 10/14/08. During my pregnancy I was told she was completely healthy and when she was born I was told the same thing. The very next morning, I was woken up to here that she had been moved to the NICU awaiting a flight crew from Riley's Children's Hospital to pick her up and take her away immediately. They told me that she would need surgery within 24 hours. My husband and I were so worried. I discharged myself from the hospital even though I was extremely ill. (I was induced due to severe preclampsia I had over 40 lbs of excess water that built up in a matter of days before I delivered at 37 weeks.) When we arrived in Indianapolis and saw our daughter she was in the NICU at Riley. We talked to a surgeon who told us that they were waiting on surgery and thought that she should be bigger before they operated and that things weren't as bad as they had thought. (She was born 5 lbs, 12 ounces and 18 inches long.) She had a week of testing done before we were able to bring her home. We were told she had an imperforated anus with a rectovaginal fistula. Basically instead of poo coming through an anus it was coming through a fistual located just under her vagina. Now, she's going to be 3 months next Tuesday on the 14th. We have to take her up on Sunday for admission and Monday morning on the 12th they will operate on her bottom to correct the problem. Then she'll be normal if all goes well with just one surgery. The hard part is during her hospital stay which could be a week or more we won't be able to hold her and they will not feed her for 5 days and she'll only get calories through a port they will place in her for IV fluids. :-( IF she were to get infected or show any signs of redness they will do another surgery immediately and place a colostomy bag on her for 6 weeks before closing it up and then she'd be fine and perfectly healthy. I'm just so worried about her surgery. She's still very small. Just about 9 lbs and tiny for her age. I didn't know if any other parents have gone through a similar situation or have success stories of small children being operated on and being just fine. Also, I didn't know how you were able to deal with the emotions you were feeling before surgery and during. Thanks for all the answers in advance!

the first thing is to put the issue in perspective: you have a healthy baby and this procedure, as procedures go, is not very high on the scale of things - it could be open-heart or brain surgery. i know it's your baby and you're frightened for her, but she'll be FINE. second, trust your medical team. look at all the testimonials and talk to other parents at the hospital you'll be having it done at. meet the surgical team, tour the recovery ward, and look at all those children bursting back to good health and a normal, happy life and just think: you baby will be one of them in no time! i was operated on for hare lip and cleft palate when i was a baby - and now i have three supremely lovely daughters with nary a cleft in sight!

I don't have any kids but...just remember that those doctors know what they're doing, and that the surgery is the best thing for her. My youngest brother had to get heart surgery a month ago. He's 10, so he's much older than your daugher...but I was still really worried because it was his heart they were operating on of all things. I couldn't help but think that one tiny wrong move would be disaster. I had to remind myself though that the doctors knew what they were doing, that is what they did for a living, and that we were also at one of the best children's hospitals in the country....if anybody could do that stuff right it was those guys! I'm glad to say everything went perfect. I'm sure your daughter will be fine :) Good luck to you guys

First off I must say, if you believe in this kind of thing - which I do - praying is very important. God will be there no matter what our feelings are. I have a 2 month old boy and could not imagine what my feelings would be. I can only guess. Our 5 year old has had one surgery and about to have another one on his "down there" part due to a tick bite that got WAY outta hand. The infection has come back and therefore we are in for another surgery. We can only hope and pray that they get it all out this time. This has been going on since the tick bite which was in September of 2007. I know my feelings for him, because he did have to be put completely under, were horrifying. I was so scared because he has a history of seizures and he has asthma. The doctors and nurses were wonderful though. They knew exactly what they were doing and he came back to us with no complications what so ever. Of course, I know I will feel the same way with his second one. Even though I know what they are doing, I will still be nervous as everything. They are our children and I worry if we didn't feel so strongly about it. Just have faith and trust in God and the doctors and nurses. I'm not sure if there is anything specific to do about the feelings, just breath slowly. I keep to myself and get very quiet when I'm nervous. This helps me personally. My husband is there for me as I am for him too. Good luck and I will keep you all in my personal prayers.

lm so sorry for family, my son had surgery when he was 2 years of age and it was nothing like what your child is going through. I wish I had some magic words for you,I remember asking the Lord to be with him, I knew he would be okay and he was. I will pray for you, and your family.

I was born with a spinal deformity, and have had 12 surgeries to date, the first when I was 10 weeks old (I'm 18 years old now). And I'm perfectly fine...I still have a messed up spine, and it will be forever, but I survived all those surgeries, many at a young age, and each with a week or more in the hospital after. I've asked my mom how she coped with me having surgery that young before, and she said you've got to have faith in the doctors and focus on the positive, rather than the negative. This operation is a necessity and will make the quality of life in the future so much better for your daughter. Think about the good that you are doing for her and don't harp on the possibilties of what could happen, remember that they are small chances. Best of luck to your family.

You know what i dont think there is a way to cope with this kind of issue. Yours is a little different but in the same time is same. When i was pregnant, everything was fine according to the docs and team, but around 20hrs after birth ( and birth was normal except for them putting a mask on my mouth to help brethe and some anesthesia) they rushed into the room and stated that they need to take him. I was currently beastfeeding one the first side and didnt even let me empty the other one saying that it was an emergency that they rush him in the ICU. very painful to hear. i felt like i failed in mother hood because i couldnt even have a normal baby. anyway i finally got over this after months with family and friends help. It started by just being a heart murmur to tatrology of fallot. He had surgery at 6 months old and i could not handle that. Open heart surgery for my baby. No way. i cant allow it. but be honest with the doc and team and tell them what you are worried about and any little concern because you will get an answer. they called it a minor procedure but to me it was huge. i was never going to bring my son but for some reason i felt good in my heart about this and we ( my husband and family) prayed. I fainted when i seen my son after. he was still on all the drugs and when he opened his eyes he didnt recognize us. it was really sad. he was sort of hypertensive for a few weeks and was on high blood pressure medication. now my son is going to be 11 months on the 29th and is starting to walk. so have faith and be honest with the medical team. tell them everything on your mind and tell them to be honest. it will help you. all info that you can get will help. ask them to tell you the procedure. anyway best of luck. I never hope surgery on anyone or anyones children even if it would be my enemy. its very painful and if you have not gone through it you will not know. hope this helps and God Bless you guys and the little one.

I am a new mom of a 3 1/2 month old baby boy who just had to have double hernia surgery a month ago (so at 2 1/2 months old). The hernia on the right side of his groin popped in and out so the pediatric urologist we saw was very concerned about his bowels popping out with it and causing a bowel obstuction (which would require a more serious surgery) so he wanted to do surgery a week and a half after seeing my son! It's not a super serious surgery but as a new mom I was absolutely terrified of the thought of my tiny new baby going under the knife and not to mention anesthesia for such a young baby! So I was a nervous wreck for that whole week and a half let me tell ya! On the day of surgery when I had to hand over my poor little guy I lost it completely :( But they did the surgery and it went way quicker than I thought and everything is just fine now! They reassured me that babies heal SO fast and there are newborn babies that have to get heart surgery when they are a day old that make it out just fine so that helped me alot. We also went to church the day before and had the minister say a special prayer for him and that helped ease my mind too. You'll get through it and your baby will be just fine....it will be over before you know it--I promise :) Good luck!

How do I buy a plane ticket

How do I buy a plane ticket?
how do I get a plane ticket from indianapolis,In to juarez mexico? When I do it online they want me to pay online i don't want to do that. Where do i get a passport? How does a round trip ticket work... just go for a couple of days and come back? When I choose for a flight online....do i just go to the airport... what happens if theres not a direct flight to juarez? I have a guy i can stay with and is going to pick me up from the airport? can someone just give me the process also i have a verizon cellphone can i use my cell phone in mexico or will it not work?

Get passport at the Post Office. Buy the ticket on-line, because you need to use a credit card anyway. Cell won't work without international service. I doubt you have that already. But you might get reception if you are near the border. Round trip ticket has the return day, or you can keep it open. Keeping an open return means that you may need to make the return reservation a few days in advance. Take the bus. Less hassle.
2 :
U can contact a reputed travel agent dealing with air travel. He will nicely plan the complete trip with all details, and timing of flights neatly written so u don't miss a flight. U can use your cell phone in mexico, most cell phone r meant for travel.
3 :
If you don't want to pay online, you can pay over the phone. Call the airline directly with your flight information. You can also go to a travel agency, where they'll handle all of your concerns. It's their job. Or you can purchase your ticket at the ticket counter of the airport. If you do buy your ticket online, they'll give you a code and a page to print out (called an e-ticket) that you take to the airport, where they'll give you your boarding pass. If there's no direct flight to where you want to go, you'll have a layover or two. So you'll fly to say, Texas, change planes, and then fly to Mexico. All that being said, if you don't know how to do this already, why on Earth are you trying to go to Mexico? How old are you? Are you running away from home? Are you following some child predator pervert? Please be careful and just stay home where you'll be safe.

Flying from IND to ORF and need to purchase an adult roundtrip ticket, and a child one way ticket for the same

Flying from IND to ORF and need to purchase an adult roundtrip ticket, and a child one way ticket for the same
flight? I contacted NWA (the airline that has the flights we want) and they insist that I must order the child ticket over the phone and that I have to pay the unaccompanied minor fee. This doesn't sound right at all. He won't be accompanied, he will be traveling with me! The child is my nephew, he is going to visit his father in Virginia. His father was going to fly one way to Indianapolis, only to get back on another plane with my nephew and fly back to Virginia (he would be purchasing 2 roundtrips for the two of them). This makes no sense to me for him to do all this un-necessary traveling (his father has heart problems, has a defibulator and a pacemaker). I am from Virginia originally and have been wanting to visit, so I volunteered to accompany my nephew on the flight (it benefits everyone). I would be staying a week, my nephew will be staying for almost 2 months. This can't be an uncommon situation, can it? Will a local travel agent be able to help? I just checked and for me to buy 2 one ways ticket instead of 1 roundtrip is only $30 bucks more. This will probably be the best option for me instead of the unaccompanied minor crap they are trying to pull on me.

Why don't you buy two round-trips? It might be cheaper than two one-ways. Then he would not use the return portion of his r/t. Then, he would have to buy another r/t but that still might be cheaper. How is he getting back? Who's taking him then? Also try calling again, getting another agent and if the story is the same, ask nicely for a supervisor. Just make sure this is the right story! I've been given misinformation myself over the phone... This sounds like a case where both people have to have the same exact booking. It's in the computer and they may not be able to change it. Please be sure you have 1. a certified copy of his birth certificate (assuming he's American, if not, his passport). 2. a permission letter from the dad, better yet, both parents. 3. a medical release to give you authority while he's with you. These might have to be notarized. Contact your lawyer and ask. Sorry to hear about his dad's health issues. Here are my flying tips. I'm a former Flight Attendant and I fly a couple of times a year with my three kids between Europe and America. It's totally non-commercial. http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com... Good luck!

Pittsburgh International Airport... eep

Pittsburgh International Airport... eep!!?
I'm flying for the first time ever (by myself at that!) from Pittsburgh International to Indianapolis to see my brother right over Easter. I was just wondering how on earth you go about check ins and security and tickets and all that fun stuff... I am looking into buying an "electronic ticket"?? on Travelocity, and it says that its $50 extra to get a paper ticket. Don't I need something to show that I have the ticket? Or do they tell me to print something out? I'm so lost... Also, how do check ins go? I'm only taking a carry-on suitcase that my mom used on her flight to Orlando. Also, she took a backpack as another carry-on. What am I allowed to do on the plane? I know I have to have my phone and Blackberry off. Can I take a cd player? What about laptops? Do they count as a piece of luggage themselves or can I just pack it in a bigger piece of luggage.... Sorry for the 50 questions, I'm just nervous! Not about the flying part, but the before and after parts!!!

Paper tickets are very 20th century ... electronic tickets are now the standard. I would stay away from Traveocity and the other consolidators, UNLESS you have already checked the airline websites and found a better price. Say, Travelocity offers you a ticket for X dollars, chances are, you could get the ticket for the same price from the website of whatever airline they are selling - but you would have the protection of having booked directly with the airline in the event of delay, cancellation, reroute or whatever. If you have a e-ticket, you can check in on line using the printed confirmation you will receive. If you opt to go with a paper ticket, you will need to wait at the airport. You can check two bags, and carry on one plus a "personal item", in your case, your laptop. Write if you need further answers.

When you get an e-ticket, you'll arrive at the airport, find the desks of your airline and check-in. There, they'll print your ticket and take your checked luggage from you. You'll then go through security where you'll need to put all of your belongs through, and possibly your shoes too (make sure to keep your boarding pass and id in your hand when you go through). You'll then go to your gate and wait until your boarding time. They'll make announcements at your gate to tell you when you can board and all of that. You're allowed one carry on and a personal item (purse, laptop, etc. (put your cd player and phone in one of them)) Once on the plane, they'll give you a speech about what to do in case of an emergency and tell you to turn off all electronic devices. When your plane reaches it's cruising altitude (usually about 15-20 minutes after you take off) you'll be allowed to use your cd player or other electronics (not including your phone or blackberry). About 20 minutes before landing, they'll again tell you to turn off your electronics. As soon as your plane lands, they'll let you know it's safe to use your phone but nothing else. You'll stay on the plane until they have everything ready to de-plane and then you'll get off, meet your brother and get your bags. None of this is a big deal- there will be signs for EVERYTHING with arrows and such. My one hint is to chew gum through your flight to help prevent your ears from popping too bad (especially when taking off). Good luck and have fun!

Ha! I love this question- I know Pittsburgh's airport very well, it's actually a really nice airport. As soon as you get into the terminal area you'll feel calm. You don't need a physical ticket, etickets are fine. You should print out your travelocity web page though, with the itinerary, so that you know your flight numbers, etc. And of course the phone # of whoever you're meeting. You have a cell? Tell your brother what your flight number is so he can find the terminal and be waiting for you. When you get in, find your airline's check-in counter (there will be rows of them) and wait in line to talk to a rep to check in. They may make you use the e-checkin thing, but they'll tell you how. Get to the airport early. You probably are nervous enough that you will be plenty early. I get there an hour and a half early for domestic. You can have a cd player and a laptop but turn it off when they say to over the PA system "please turn off electronic devices" etc etc. (Although you know you don't need BOTH a cd player and a laptop because your laptop plays cd's right?). Yes pack the laptop and cd player in your carry on. Also you can't bring liquids in containers more than 3 ounces. It's totally lame. You may was well just not bring any liquids. Food you can bring, but that's a short flight. I've flown from that airport to indiana MANY times. So I've done your flight before a lot.
