can i get into airport lounges for a domestic connection for an international flight?
i'm flying first class on northwest airlines, and when flying home, i'm flying from taipei -> tokyo -> detroit -> indianapolis. am i allowed to get into the airport lounge at detroit even though its a domestic flight?

Yes. The lounges are there to make money and serve you. They don't know or care about your flight details. They do care about your behavior, that you are of legal age, and about getting paid.

If all your flights are on Northwest or a partner airline you should have lounge access before each flight. It shouldn't matter whether it's a domestic or an international flight as long as you're flying 1st class all the way. That's one of the perks you get when you fly 1st or business class or are a very frequent flyer.

I think Mannheim's airport is small, therefore ticket prices are more expensive. Should I fly into Frankfurt or another airport? ORD or CVG to Frankfurt will probably be the cheapest.

Dohop.com has a great map of airports. I you go there, input your airports, and click 'map' (just above the from box) you will see the airports you selected and can find bigger airports nearby. Dohop has great prices for international flights by the way, and also, if you want to search from multiple airports you can, just by entering a comma after the first one you put in. Long story short, Chicago O'Hare and Frankfurt might be good bets.

For a domestic flight do you only need to have your bags checked once?
I'm going from Indianapolis to Richmond soon and there is no direct route so I have to connect in Atlanta first. Do I need to have my bags checked again? I'll be using AirTran.

In my experience with AirTran and connector flights, I've only had one bag check-in. The baggage handlers will transfer your bags from plane to plane in Atlanta. I hope that helps :)

Arrival 2 hours before departure in Indianpolis is required for international check in as your passport information will be taken in Indianapolis and may be subject to re-check at the Philadelphia gate. This is US Airways suggestion.
